Biography

Alain Antoine Turgeon was born in Quebec where he lives and works to a Quebec father and a Mexican mother.
With roots in Quebec, Mexico, France and Germany, he grew up at the confluence of cultures
Mexican and French. From his youth, in Quebec, he learned about photography.
He traveled to Europe, the Maghreb, the Holy Land, the United States and Mexico where he completed his apprenticeship
jewelry store in Taxco.
Back in Quebec, he completed his training as a jeweler and worked in this profession for several years.
From 1988 to 1992, he completed his studies in Visual Arts at Laval University and in this year 1992 he obtained the prize
of the competition for graduates in Plastic Arts from the Engramme print center.
In 1999, he completed technical training in computer graphics.

His works are part of the collections of the Bibliothèque Nationale du Québec and
from the Artothèque de la Ville de Québec as well as numerous private collections.


Steps
 

Art gives me the joyful freedom to explore the paths of creation guided by my intuition.
Drawing and image are very often present in my works but it also happens that I express myself first through gesture and color, this being the unifying factor of my work, vibrant color taking its source in my Mexican side. Drawing and handmade work increasingly occupy my pictorial space and production is entering a new phase with the recent series Ghost Notes, Mandalaja, Cosmos.

The transience of life in these moments of poetry where we feel the universe vibrating has long been
the theme of my artistic activity through phantasmagorias taken as a succession of images resulting from chance as in dreams with processes such as distortion, inversion and superposition in order to provoke a drift in perception.

I was introduced to the darkroom at the age of fifteen and photography remains influential in creation but as an underlying element, unlike a significant part of my previous production where it was used directly via screen printing which is my favorite technique in printmaking. Over time the photo became a parallel production.

After a forced interruption of my painting practice for family reasons
I take it up again in a spirit of rebirth and openness.
